National Standards Setting Body

Opportunity Training is the national standards setting body for unit standards in the crane, scaffolding, rigging and industrial rope access domains of the National Qualifications frame work.

Opportunity Training maintains a commitment to provide qualifications that reflect the appropriate level of ability required by people operating and working with cranes, scaffolding, rigging and industrial rope access in NZ industry. Opportunity Training shall ensure that the qualifications are appropriate, up to date and readily available to trainees.

Opportunity Training shall ensure that National Certificates are available in options to suit each facet of the crane, scaffolding, rigging and industrial rope access industries and that credits in individual unit standards may also be attained. Unit standards offered by Opportunity Training may be taken with unit standards offered by other Industry Training Organisations to meet the needs of trainees and organisations.

Registration with NZQA to receive credits on the national qualifications framework is optional. A once only NZQA connection fee may be paid through Opportunity Training or Tai Poutini Polytechnic if recognition is required and has not previously been established. NZQA registration may be applied for at the outset of training or at some later date.

Opportunity Training shall review the effectiveness of the range and content of their unit standards and qualifications and shall further develop or up date these as necessary. Such initiatives shall aim to enhance the skills of the trainees and raise the standard of the skills within the industry. Those who have recognised skills through prior learning may not have to participate in a formal training programme. Assessment however is still required in order to be credited with the unit standard/s.
