Assessor Accreditation Process

The Opportunity Training assessors committee shall accredit assessors on the basis of the application details and a report on the interview. Assessors of crane unit standards will:

  • Have to demonstrate an understanding of the Opportunity Training administrative procedures and responsibilities
  • Have to agree to abide fully with the Opportunity Training Quality Management System, policies and procedures as outlined and revised from time to time.
  • Be observed (by an experienced assessor appointed by Opportunity Training) carrying out assessments on Unit Standards as may be determined by Opportunity Training. The number of observed assessments will be determined by the experienced assessor and until such time for the new assessor to be deemed competent in that Unit Standard.
  • Carry out ALL assessments in an unbiased, competent manner in accordance with the policies and procedures of Opportunity Training
  • Be subject to moderation in accordance with Opportunity Training policies and procedures.
  • Carry out ALL assessments using Opportunity Training approved Assessment Instruments.
  • Return ALL Opportunity Training property including stamps, stationery etc immediately if requested by Opportunity Training.

Following accreditation Opportunity Training will contact the Assessor to explain the administrative procedures, forms etc that are to be used in carrying out assessments. An explanation regarding the observing on assessments will also be given. An assessor may undertake assessments of crane unit standards only within the scope of the approval.

A person recognised as a trainer may also be registered as an assessor and may assess trainees to whom training has been given. In this case evidence of impartiality is vital and the trainee and training coordinator must pay particular attention to the gathering of evidence of training and on job experience.

Assessor accreditation shall remain in place subject to successful ongoing moderation reviews. The assessors committee shall carry out a formal review of an assessor's accreditation every two years.
